Patient Sedation

For the Nervous Patient

Sedation Options Offered at Smile Health

At Smile Health, your comfort is always an essential part of treatment. We offer different sedation options to help you feel calm and supported throughout your MasterClass surgery.

Relaxation Tablets – Diazepam

This is the main option offered within the MasterClass. Diazepam helps you feel calm while staying awake and responsive — which is helpful for the surgeon during treatment. Because you remain conscious, there are no extra costs or special aftercare requirements, making this a simple and effective choice for most patients.

Helps reduce dental anxiety and supports a calm experience

Keeps you awake and responsive, aiding the surgery process

No additional costs or aftercare requirements

Taken shortly before your appointment

Effects wear off gradually and naturally

Will I be asleep if I take Diazepam?
No, you remain awake but more relaxed.
When do I take it?
Usually 30–60 minutes before treatment, as directed.
Are there side effects?
Some drowsiness is common, but it wears off gradually.

General Anaesthetic

Patients who wish to be fully asleep during their procedure can opt for general anaesthetic for an additional fee of €1,000. A consultant anaesthetist is present throughout to monitor everything safely and professionally. This option is available with both MasterClass and Standard treatments.

What’s the difference from sedation?
Sedation keeps you awake but relaxed; general anaesthetic puts you fully asleep.
Is it safe?
Yes. It is carried out by a consultant anaesthetist with full monitoring.
How much does it cost?
The fee is €1,000, whether you are on the MasterClass or Standard programme.

You are fully asleep and unaware of the procedure

Delivered and monitored by a consultant anaesthetist

Safe and professionally managed throughout

Recovery takes longer compared to tablet sedation

Available with both MasterClass and Standard treatments for an additional €1,000 fee

IV Sedation (not part of Masterclass)

IV sedation is not included in the Masterclass programme, but is available at our standard pricing. While it can keep patients very relaxed, Dr. Sperber often prefers general anaesthesia over IV sedation because it makes surgery smoother from a practical perspective.

Provides deep relaxation and reduced awareness of the procedure

You remain responsive, but may remember little or nothing

Often less practical for surgery compared to general anaesthetic

Available only at standard pricing, outside the Masterclass

Recommended only for patients who want stronger sedation than tablets but do not wish to have general anaesthetic

What does it feel like?
Most patients feel very drowsy and relaxed, with little memory of the procedure.
Why isn’t it part of the Masterclass?
Because general anaesthetic is usually the more practical choice for surgery.
Is it safe?
Yes, with full monitoring during treatment.
